Microphone Concept
For this project, our goal was to enhance the sustainability of a low-cost item by reimagining its manufacturing process. Using Sustainable Minds software, we identified opportunities for improvement and transformed the original design to incorporate disassemble materials. The initial microphone had components that were not replaceable, limiting its lifespan and leading to more waste. To create a more quality-driven and eco-friendly design, we extended its longevity. The redesigned microphone now boasts a sleek cylindrical form with a modern aesthetic, complemented by a rounded square pedestal stand for stability and visual appeal.
Re-Design
After attaining a standard low-quality microphone, I dissected the object to explore its anatomy to see what could be altered or removed. By understanding what each component does I was able to determine how to combine some parts as well as using less manufactured parts. Using simple cylindrical elements these parts were able to be threaded and extruded rather than using expensive injection molds.
