Tool Free Furniture

Our design challenge was to create a furniture piece using only a single sheet of 48" x 48" birch plywood, without the use of any hardware. Leveraging the capabilities of a CNC machine, we embarked on a journey of digital fabrication, pushing the boundaries of creativity and problem-solving. Drawing inspiration from space frame architecture, I decided to incorporate its structural principles into the design of the legs. By interlocking the legs together with a keystone-like element, we aimed to achieve maximum stability and strength. This ingenious solution not only eliminated the need for hardware but also added a unique and visually striking feature to the furniture piece. The CNC machine played a vital role in our design process, enabling precise and accurate cuts on the birch plywood.
